Headshot questions, answered
Perfect Headshot PDX is a headshot studio in Portland, Oregon. These are the questions people ask before they request a session or a team quote, with plain answers about what happens, what it costs and what to do next.
If your question is not here, put it in the request form. A person reads it and replies by email.
How do I request a session?
Use the Request a session form. It asks for your name and your email address. You can also pick a session, give the dates you prefer, add a phone number and write a message.
A person reads the request and replies by email. If you are asking for a team, use the Request a team quote form on the Team Headshots page instead.
What happens after I send the request?
The page confirms that your request was saved and shows you a reference. A person then replies by email to agree a date and time with you. Sessions are by appointment.
Nothing is charged on this site and no card details are taken here.
How far ahead should I ask?
We do not publish a lead time. Send the request as soon as you know you need the photo, and list a few dates that work for you. If you have a deadline, write it in the message box. The reply will tell you which dates are open.
If time is short after the session, priority rush is $100 and moves your retouch to the front of the queue.
Can I cancel or reschedule?
Sessions are non-refundable. You may reschedule once if you ask more than 24 hours ahead. If your plans change, reply to the email you received as early as you can.

There are two parts, added together. Part one is the session fee, which pays for studio time and coaching. Classic Headshots (30 min) is $130. Creative Headshots (1 hour) is $260. The Full Experience (2 hours) is $330. No images are included in the session fee.
Part two is the images. Each retouched image you choose afterwards is $130.

Why are the session and the images priced separately?
The session fee pays for the time in the studio and the coaching. That part is the same whether you need one photo or ten.
The images are priced one by one so that you pay only for the ones you want. A person who needs a single headshot buys one. A person who needs a set for a website buys more.
Do I have to buy images?
No. You look through your proof gallery and buy only the images you want, at $130 each. The session fee is separate. It pays for the studio time and the coaching, and it does not include any images.
Is there a rush option?
Yes. Priority rush is $100 and moves your retouch to the front of the queue. Without it, retouched finals arrive within one week of the day you choose your images. Ask for rush in your request, and say when you need the files.
What happens in a session?
Every individual session takes place at the studio and is coached from start to finish. It begins with an orientation before the first frame. Then come practice rounds, where you look at the images as you go and adjust. You get posing direction throughout, under studio lighting.
Afterwards you get help choosing your images. The watermarked proofs are in your private online gallery the same day.
I hate being photographed. Will this work for me?
Every session is coached, so you are told what to do at each step. The orientation comes before any photo is taken. The practice rounds let you see your own images early, while there is still time to change something.
The Camera Confidence Session is made for people who dislike being photographed and want to get comfortable on camera. It is 1 hour with 3 outfit changes, coaching throughout and 5 retouched images included, for $799.
How many outfits can I bring?
It depends on the session. Classic Headshots: 1 outfit + accessories. Creative Headshots: 3 outfits + accessories. The Full Experience: 6 outfits + accessories. Camera Confidence Session: 3 outfit changes.
The What to Wear page helps you decide what to bring.
Do you offer hair and makeup?
Arrive camera-ready. Hair and makeup are not offered for individual sessions. For a team day, on-site hair and makeup can be added, and it is quoted per team.
Can I bring someone with me?
We have not published a policy on guests. Write it in the message box when you request a session, and the reply will tell you.
What is the proof gallery?
It is a private online gallery of the images from your session. The proofs are watermarked, and they are ready the same day. You choose the images you want from the gallery, and help with choosing is part of every session. The images you buy are then retouched.
How long do the finished images take?
Retouched finals arrive within one week of the day you choose your images. Priority rush, at $100, moves your retouch to the front of the queue.
For team days, retouched finals arrive within 5 business days. Priority 48-hour finals are a team add-on at $300.
What does retouching mean?
Each image you buy is retouched before it is delivered. You receive the original and the retouched version of each image you buy. You can put the two side by side and see what changed.
This site does not list the retouching steps. If there is something you want handled, or something you want left alone, write it in your request.
What file types do I get?
You get digital high-resolution files. The file format is not listed on this site. If you need a particular format or size, for a printer or a company directory for example, say so in your request.
What usage rights do I get?
Team headshots come with unlimited business-use rights. The terms for individual sessions are not published on this site yet. If you have a particular use in mind, such as advertising or a book cover, ask in your request and a person will answer.
Can I get prints or RAW files?

How does a team day work?
We come to your office and set up a backdrop and lights. Setup takes about 45 minutes. Each person gets a coached mini-session: 3 to 5 minutes for staff, 10 to 15 minutes for leadership. Everyone gets a private proof gallery the same day and one retouched headshot, with unlimited business-use rights.
Retouched finals arrive within 5 business days. The company gets a master gallery organized by name, and one invoice. To start, send the Request a team quote form with your team size, the dates you prefer and where your office is.
